Fashion Inspiration

I have never claimed to have much fashion sense -- my criteria for getting dressed are pretty simple.
  • Does it fit?
  • Is it comfortable?
  • Do I mind that Joella will inevitably spit up on it?
  • Does it look completely ridiculous? For example, does it make me look like a clown? I've had a sweater with big buttons in the past. It was cute, but every time I put it on, I felt like a clown. I've also had a shirt that gave me a similar feeling, only this time I pictured myself as George Washington each time I walked past a mirror. Why I would buy a shirt that made me feel like a clown or George Washington, I don't know. I guess that's why I've gotten smart and stick mostly with plain things depending on the weather. Jeans & a plain tank, jeans & a plain t-shirt, jeans & a plain long sleeve shirt, or maybe a combination of them all - you get the idea.
Take a look at today's combo and my inspiration:

My inspiration

Just in case you didn't quite get my "inspiration"

I actually had no idea that I tried to dress like my baby today. I about died laughing this morning when I was playing with Joella. I was picking her up into the air trying to get her to laugh (we call it honking because she sounds like a goose). I noticed her bib hanging down, then looked down at myself and about lost it. Too funny... My criteria for dressing her are actually exactly the same so it makes sense that we would turn out dressing alike.

Another example: I think I was the inspiration on this one though...

I used to tease my mom that we would end up with very similar clothes. I would blame her for copying me but recently realized that we are probably both to blame since we have similar tastes. Now it's just convenient, especially since we're roughly the same size. I guess Joella and I are starting out early. Now I just need to wait for her to grow :)

I'm surprised that I'm dedicating so much time to a post about clothes. I'm actually in the process of getting rid of as many as possible. Matt and I have been trying to get rid of a lot of our "stuff" that just isn't necessary. We don't want to accumulate too much and are trying to simplify a bit.

On a different note, Joella & I got a lot of bonding time this weekend. I didn't want to advertise it at the time, but we had the weekend alone. Matt was in a wedding in Nebraska -- our good friend, Aaron, got married on Saturday.
Don't they look nice? This is the second wedding that Matt's been in the last few weeks -- he's worn his dress blues for both (Congrats, Eric & Amanda!). That's just a shot of the top half. Take a look at the entire uniform. I'm not sure if I grabbed a current picture, but the idea is what I'm after.Notice how the pants are a completely different color? I thought it was kind of silly the first time I saw it but I've grown accustomed to it. Rumor has it that the pants and coats used to be the same color -- soldiers would take their coats off and their pants would fade in the sun so they just started producing them completely different colors. I did some snooping online, and it sounds like the reason for the difference in colors may actually just be the development of the uniforms over time (at one time they were both dark blue, then light blue to save $ w/ dying costs & to prevent fading, then changes to distinguish between enlisted and officers, etc...). I'm not 100% sure what the real reason is, but I thought it was kind of interesting.

While Matt was in Nebraska, I stayed here with Joella and the dogs (ours plus Matt's parents' Golden Retriever, Cassie). We had a big day Sunday. We made the trip to church on our own without any major meltdowns AND we went to the bark park with both our dogs. Logistically that was a small challenge but it was worth it since it was so nice outside (72 degrees!). TWO outings in a day -- I think that was an accomplishment! Now Matt's back and flying his last couple of nights. Time is going so fast -- we'll be leaving Fort Rucker in roughly a month!

Will you...?

Will you be my valentine?

Even though I pick my nose? :)

I had so many cute outfits to wear today -- not all of them made it to the photo shoot because I spit up on them long before we started... Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

It's Snowing?

When I looked out the window this morning, I was surprised to see that it was SNOWING! It's been going strong the entire morning. So pretty! No complaints here -- I don't really have to get out in it except to let the dogs out :)

The dogs acted like they had never seen snow. I guess they forgot about all the playing in it they did in Iowa...

Per a recent request, here are some new pictures I took of Joella the other day. She'll be 4 months old by the end of next week. We still swaddle her at night, but now we start out with one arm free. Now she's into sucking her fingers instead of her pacifier (usually the middle two).
She's so fun :)
