Gloworm

Just for proof:
Joe sent this to me this morning saying, "We had twins."

What a trip

Matt's been telling me I should blog for awhile now... there's lots of updates, but first, the most important:

Meet Conor Joseph -- this little guy makes us an aunt and uncle for the first time. We're so glad he's finally here.

My mom and I got to see him within an hour or two after he was born. These first few pictures were taken while he was still awake and active. I've coined him as our little gloworm. Don't you think there's a resemblance? What a cutie... :)
I'm so glad I made the trip up to Iowa to be a part of this! Just some checkups

He didn't like his first bath all that much...Joe's a pro already. He was teaching me some of the new tricks they learned.Look at all that hair! Conor's such a good little baby. I think he and our little girl (yes, we're having a girl!) are going to like each other. I could feel her moving around when I was holding Conor in this picture.

I made a last minute decision to drive up to Iowa. There were so many things I'd be missing out on if I didn't, so it's been well worth the drive. The pups and I came up to meet Conor and to surprise my mom, Matt's mom, and friends at Rach's wedding shower. What perfect timing for all of that to be going on the same week.

Matt was excited about my trip because that meant I would be putting miles on "Jet" (One of our latest purchases -- we sold the Volvo and Matt's been having a lot of fun dowing his own work on our faded black Jetta TDI). He was curious how it would do on the highway, and we got over 50 miles per gallon. Nice, huh? I only had to stop and fill up once. The only catch was that I had to learn how to drive stick in a week or two. I'd had a couple of lessons before but that sure was the way to go. I drove everywhere while I was with Matt, and then had LOTS of time to practice on my own on my way up. I'm glad to have the skill now.

I haven't heard from Matt yet, but today he's supposed to be moving from the similators to the actual training heleloctors for instrument flying. Sounds scary to me to be flying around without being able to see outside. He'll have to update us all on how it went.

The other news is that little Kaeda passed her beginner obedience class. It was a close call though, because she can't sit still when people pet her. She loves everyone and everything. Chaz on the other hand, not only did not pass his intermediate class, he got kicked out 2 sessions before the end of class. I have to laugh, because not even our instructor (has owned and showed several shelties over the years) knows how to get through to this dog.

Visitors

This post should have been made awhile ago...

One of our highlights this month was having Ross and Amber visit us for a few days. We didn't offer them too much excitement, but it was fun to hang out, relax, and laugh with good friends.

They got to take part in family day here for Matt's flight class, so we all got to see him fly. It seems like a lot of the people Matt and I had met when we got down here all happened to be in Matt's class, so we got to hang out with them and their families too that day.

Matt flying in:

Getting out / ready to fuel up:
I got to go up in the air traffic control tower and give Matt permission for take-off over the radio.
Scary -- can you imagine the two of us flying? At least the pilot in command sits on the right :)
Had to get a shot in the aviators...
Ross and Amber were troopers -- they survived two nights of a faulty air mattress and made the mighty trek back to Iowa in one LONG day.... (thanks, guys!)

We've had a few other but not so welcome guests lately too. If any of you were in the suites freshman year at ISU, you may remember some really annoying and unnecessary fire alarms going off intermittently throughout the night over the course of a week or two.... We'd all have to get up, pull our coats on, and make the trip down the stairs, outside, and wait unknowingly until we got the go-ahead to go back to sleep. That's what this week's tornado sirens have reminded me of. There have been a few of them, accompanied by heavy storms / rain. Fortunately nothing has come too close to us, but a tornado did touch down at one of the airfields on post. We've had some broken sleep and I've found myself fairly accustomed to grabbing a comforter, some pillows, the laptop, and heading to the bathroom with the dogs. One morning we had the whole family in the bathtub and our little make-shift bed was surprisingly comfortable. We wait for the "nee-ner-nee-ner" siren as I call it (tone on post to let us know we're clear), and head back to bed. Anyways, unlike Ross & Amber, these visitors have overstayed their welcome!
